Money, Success, Fame, Glamour.

Recently 'Party Monster' was on my movie channel and my obsession was reborn.

Starring a slew of my favorite actors (Chloƫ Sevigny, Maccaulay Culkin & Seth Green to name a few) and featuring the most outrageous clothing & the best "I really don't give a fuck" attitudes of the celebutantes turned Club Kids running wild, fabulous, drugged-up and rich in New York City in the late eighties/early nineties...

Directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato and based on the novel 'Disco Bloodbath: A Fabulous True Tale of Murder in Clubland' written by James St. James (once a 'Club Kid' himself) who recalls the times and events in his perspective of himself, the other Club Kids -including the infamous Michael Alig

'King of the Club Kids'

and Angel Mendez-
and ultimately the death of Angel and the imprisonment of Michael after fueled tension over drugs and debt led to an altercation between the two which resulted in Michael and a fellow Club Kid murdering Angel and subsequently chopping the body up and sending it out on the river.

I tried to download the 2003 version of 'Party Monster' the other night and accidentally downloaded "Party Monster: The Shockumentary" the original film made in 1998 (also Directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato) with all the Club Kids themselves recounting the events and some family members. Both are worth a watch, the original 'shocumentary' being my favorite especially the actual footage from the outlawed parties, events at the Limelight and the general over-the-top everything. The second is basically a 'mockumentary' based on the novel and the original film, but from a more personal perspective from 'Disco Bloodbath'.

A generation of kids who really weren't afraid of censorship and to be their outrageous selves.

... they kinda changed the world, in both good and bad ways... but they we're themselves and damn proud.
